gli anni cinquanta furono il periodo d'oro del club, che vinse i titoli del 1954, 1958 e 1959, ma soprattutto battendo le squadre più forti dell'epoca.
Furono sconfitte al Molineux lo Spartak Mosca, la Dynamo Mosca, ma soprattutto il Real Madrid e la Honved (quest'ultima con uno storico 3-2 dopo il parziale di 0-2 all'intervallo), facendo guadagnare al Wolves il soprannome di squadra più forte del mondo.
